We Are Knitters is a brand where a passion for knitting meets creativity. Co-founder Alberto Bravo answered our questions.
Please introduce yourself in a few words.
My name is Alberto Bravo and I’m the co-founder and creative director of We Are Knitters. I’m 36 and I live in Madrid.
How did We Are Knitters come about?
It was on a trip to New York years ago. We saw some very attractive wool shops, and people knitting in cafés and even in the metro. When we returned to Madrid, none of this was happening – quite the contrary. Knitting was for grannies. We thought that, like all fashions, it would eventually reach Spain, so we decided to launch the brand.
What are We Are Knitters' values?
Our mission is to give. Knowing the work and effort that goes into each garment means that when you know how many hours it takes to make a jumper, for example, and then you find jumpers for €20 in certain shops, the least you can do is ask yourself how that can be.
How did your passion for knitting come about?
It was actually on the way back from the trip to New York. We didn’t know how to knit, but we tried it out and learned from online video tutorials. We loved it and have been doing it ever since.
Do you have any advice on how to start knitting?
You need a lot of patience. Although knitting is a relaxing activity, at first it can feel like the opposite because it might not seem to be working. But as with everything, it will improve with practice.
