AMBER FORT

Our itinerary begins at the foot of the imposing Amber Fort in the first rosy glows of the morning. Built at the request of Man Singh I, this is where the Maharajas of Jaipur lived and reigned from the 16th  to the 18th century.

For this first stop, we are immensely fortunate to be alone in this towering building.  We walk through a magnificent blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles: its grand palace, temples and several lavishly ornamented gates, with the feeling that the ancient monarchs are not so far away.

stop 2

Jaipur markets

Our second stop transports us to the intoxicating folklore of Jaipur’s markets. We stroll through the alleys of the flower market with perfumy jasmine scents, and then discover the beauty of the colors of the fabric market where saris and their ornaments line every nook and cranny. Spectators of this whirlwind for the senses, we end with the spice market with its thousands of surprising flavors.

stop 3

Jal Mahal

the WATER Palace

Our third stop takes us to a floating palace located in the middle of Man Sagar Lake: an enigmatic place where four of its five floors are submerged in water. This 18th-century mysterious old palace is abandoned and has become a refuge for migratory birds.

stop 4

BISSAU PALACE

Our final stop is a haven of peace, built in the 19th century by the Bissau family. The Bissau Palace is a break from the hustle and bustle of the streets, where it is nice to taste a chai latte under the arches adorned with paintings. Princess Diana had chosen this place for her first stay in India in 1992.
